TODAY'S LEAD STORY speaks about a woman who is concerned about a concrete house which is leaning on her home.
The story said the house was gutted by fire five years ago and began leaning on the house of Una Hyatt two months ago. Since then, the structure has become some what of a threat for her.
Hyatt said she has reported the matter to the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation(KSAC) but nothing has been done to date.
Whether or not Hyatt has reported the matter, it may be debated by that authority. But, at the end of the day it again raises the question of the number of derelict buildings in our city that pose a health risk to those who live in and around the area where these buildings are located.
Lest we forget, this publication has written about derelict buildings that are on the verge of falling down and we have in the past written about plans to demolish some of these buildings but it seems demolition of these structures is easier said than done.
Against this background, the KSAC should attempt to force the owners to do something about their property which has become a nuisance to others. It may not seem as the harshest thing to do but applying pressure may one day save some lives.
