Ongoing war linked to man's murder

AN ONGOING WAR in the Cockburn Gardens community is said to be the cause for the killing of a man on the compound of the Cockburn Gardens Primary and Junior High School yesterday.

The Hunt's Bay Police, who up to late yesterday could not provide a motive for the shooting death, say they have identified two suspects in connection with the murder.

The man, Errol Walker, was shot dead on the school compound, which is located on Hagley Park Road, St. Andrew, at 2:55 p.m. after residents heard gunshots in the area, police report.

The police said even though they have identified suspects no arrests have been made. The police report that residents heard gunshots coming from the back of the school compound and went to look when Walker's body was found.

Residents, however, say that Walker was taken to the rear of the school by gunmen who shot him dead. They say his death is just another saga in the ongoing war between rival gangs in Cockburn Gardens.

Several persons, including a two-year-old, have been killed and injured in the warring. The situation got so bad that policemen were placed in the area, but at the time of the killing none were present, the residents say.
