THE EDITOR, Madam:
The organiser of the Miss Jamaica World competition actually got it right! How refreshing and enlightening it is to see a true representation of our country and of our culture through this esteemed and well regarded procession. The top five were very deserving of their placements. Hats off to all the judges who participated in the proceedings as beauty with a purpose has indeed prevailed.
Let me say that this year's presentation is a marked improvement over last year's controversial ignominy. From the calibre of girls, to the well executed and in-depth insight of the revered judges. As for the guest performers, well done, especially the last dance piece performed by the duo. Let's stick to the classical arts! Please Spartan, NO MORE DJ's. At least not the repulsive ones with distasteful and unwholesome lyrics.
However, we still seem to suffer from the lack of assertive and intelligent contestants. The beauty was present but "di brain run gone lef dem".
Some of the interviewees were lacking in substance, not to mention the horrific diction and elocution of some of the contestants. It just goes to show that articulation and the ability to competently and quickly comprise intellectual responses, is not something that can be swatted.
To Terri Karelle, my heartiest of congratulations! What I parti-cularly admired about Terri was how she presented herself in all her 'natural' beauty.
Terri, more power to you. Good luck in China as it's going to be extremely competitive.
I am, etc.,
