SPALDINGS, CLARENDON:
REVEREND BARRINGTON DaCosta has been a pastor for more than 15 years. A member of the Rocky Settlement New Testament Church of God in Clarendon, DaCosta has also pastored the Comfort New Testament Church in Clarendon.
However, he was transferred by the leadership of the New Testament Church of God in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands in February of this year, to take up the position of district overseer for the six churches on the Sanguinetti district of New Testament churches also in that parish.
Rev. DaCosta took over the reigns as District Overseer from Reverend Monroe Wisdom, but the official handover took place last Sunday at an official welcome and inauguration service at the Sanguinetti New Testament Church before a packed audience.
Glowing tributes
The service, held in honour of Rev. DaCosta and his family, was filled with glowing tributes as members of all six churches which make up the district of churches were well represented, and so too was the various communities which adjoin Sanguinetti.
Since his arrival on the district in February, Rev. DaCosta has fit himself in the community well with all those who have met him.
In his tribute pastor of the Santa Hill City of Faith Church of God, Rev. Author Brown, said all pastors on the Sanguinetti district of New Testament churches have always had a good working relationship with Dacosta and he was looking forward to working with him.
Rev. Brown pointed out that God had sent Rev. DaCosta and his family to work without fear or favour.
For his part, Pastor Ralston Sinclair, minister at the Bullocks New Testament Church of God, said over the past seven months working with Rev. DaCosta, the fellowship with him has been great. He believes Rev. DaCosta will be an asset to the district.
Rev. Vernon Morrison, who now pastors Rev. DaCosta's home church at Rocky Settlement and who described the 'man of the pulpit' as his 'spiritual father', role model, friend and a man of God who has integrity and who is a hard worker, called on the churches in the area and on the district of churches to work alongside him. He said if they work with Rev. DaCosta the entire area in Sanguinetti will be transformed for God.
Speaking on behalf of the Spaldings Ministers Fraternal, Rev. K. Chaplin, the pastor at the Spaldings Hill Apostolic Church, said he and the members of the fraternity are looking forward to working with the new district overseer and called on Rev. DaCosta to preach the word in and out of season.
Member of Parliament for North West Clarendon, Richard Azan, said he was confident that the foundation laid by the church's former overseer Rev. Monroe Wisdom will be built on by the new overseer, but said Rev. DaCosta has a lot of work to do, especially among the youth in the area.
Rev. Clement Clarke, who represented the administrative bishop for the New Testament Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Island, Bishop Dr. W.A. Blair, and who was the guest speaker at the service, said Rev. DaCosta was the man who God has called to do the work as an overseer for the New Testament churches on the district. He noted that the New Testament Church has all the confidence in the newly appointed Overseer and will be depending on him to do a good job.
Rev. DaCosta, who gave his life to Jesus on February 16, 1975, is a past student of CAST (now UTech) where he did studies in chemistry. He is also a past student of Bethel Bible College. He got married to Joycelyn in 1976 and the union has produced four children.
