Tough task for Waterford

By ANTHONY MINOTT, Portmore Star Writer

PORTMORE TEAM WATERFORD High will go in search of their third Group D win of the season when they tackle Tivoli Gardens at the Edward Seaga Stadium, in the ISSA/PEPSI/JN Manning Cup on Wednesday September 28. Match time is 3:30 p.m.

The Waterford, Tivoli clash is one of two matches scheduled in Group D. The other match-up pits St. George's College against returnees Kingston High at Emmett Park.

To date Waterford has tabulated seven points, and leads the Group.

However Tivoli, currently second on six points, are in close pursuit and could take over the lead if they beat St. George's College at Emmett Park this afternoon. Tivoli swamped Kingston High 11-1 and got past Edith Dalton James 2-0 in earlier matches.

For Waterford to win their top players, Dwayne Stewart, the hardworking Anthony Stichell, Conrad White and Ramon Willie have to come with their A game. Football analyst stressed that Waterford is not the most technically correct team in the competition but they plays with a lot of heart. They say the bunch play with a lot of tenacity and a high energy of play and could surprise Tivoli Gardens if they take them lightly.

However, Tivoli are seasoned Manning Cup campaigners and could put the Waterford defense under severe pressure. But Waterford's coach Everton James loves the match-up. "I think that Waterford is the fittest team in the group, the way Tivoli played against Edith (Dalton James) showed that we can match them," an upbeat James told THE PORTMORE STAR.
