DON'T STOP DI MUSIC - Maximum energy at UTech's Xtra Credit fete

By KANDRÉ MCDONALD, Freelance Writer

UTECH'S FRESHERS FETE, Xtra Credit, staged last Friday at The University of Technology in St. Andrew, set itself apart from all other tertiary institution party.

The event was 'over the top' with extreme levels of energy propelled by the music selection, hot girls, fashion and alcohol.

Upon entry at midnight, patrons would have thought that the event had nothing to offer, as the crowd was static despite some credible selecting by Richie Feelings. However, this changed gradually when Danger Zone took over the turntables. They got an early 'forward' after playing Little Hero's Nuh Gun Nuh Mek Dung Deh and kept building their momentum from there.

When Nanko's voice emitted from the speakers with: "Lucky you, you've got a woman to go home to. I've got to find me myself a woman," the audience went out of control. The selectors later unleashed Sizzla's Rise To The Occasion and the venue was set ablaze with energy, with several torchbearers also adding heat and illumination.

The addition of Liquid to the proceedings sent the party in a climaxing mode and he soon had almost everyone in the venue moving.

With the proceedings already on a high, a report that a fashion show was to commence in a few minutes did not go down too well with the audience. When the MC came on-stage and said: "Are you ready for the fashion show?" the crowd response was a dreaded: "Noooo!"

The show went on

The MC did not care about the response however, and went on to declare that the show would go on. Drama was always in the pipeline and midway through the modelling segment a young man took up the microphone at the selectors booth and declared: "Yow stop the music now, stop that. Nobody nuh move."

He then mentioned his name and the faculty he attended at UTech before saying: "Everybody guh home now."

The event came to a standstill for approximately 10 minutes before a selector took the microphone and took back control. A part of the fashion show was eventually cancelled and the music juggling resumed.

Later, guest artiste Idonia created an electrifying mood, especially when he performed a dub dedicated to the UTech students. Leftside & Esco's performance was credible and the crowd appreciated them.

The patrons seemingly satisfied that their money was well spent began leaving the venue in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
