Hustlers' reign of terror

THERE SEEMS TO be no escape from extortionists in this country. It seems that every where you turn there is some scheme where people extort money from those who they believe are well-off.

Based on the story in Thursday's STAR it would seem as though some private contractors who are responsible for collecting our garbage have also started an extortion racket of their own by demanding money from residents in various communities to collect garbage.'

It is disturbing though, that our country has degenerated to such a state where it seems as if decent citizens have to pay for everything, although we pay our taxes which should cover most of the things we need.

It appears as if these are days of hustling, where milking an extra dollar from unsuspecting persons have become the norm. No matter what we want to say, this is unfortunate as it means that money has taken precedence over goodwill.

Although we may say money pays the bills, it is pointless that members of our society continue to find ways to make law-abiding citizens lives harder. Dear readers, let us bring Jamaica back to the days where one did their job out of goodwill and not for the purpose of hustling.
