DEAR PASTOR,
I have been having problems with the father of my children and his siblings. He is worthless because he does not provide for our children, me, or himself. He uses what I buy and bring in the yard. His siblings have never been there for the children and they are now eight years old to 15 years old.
The siblings are always amongst my children chatting disrespectfully about me. They are filling the children's head with rubbish. They tell them that their father is a good man and would give his last penny to them. It's a pity that he doesn't give his last penny to his children, instead he would hold on to his money and allow me and others to provide for them.
I paid for my child to go on holiday to his father and instead of me receiving regular calls to reassure me that my child is well, I am getting second hand "mix-up" news from his relatives when he contacts them! I am very disappointed in the behaviour of him and his family.
Please advice.
M. S.
Dear M. S.,
I am sorry to hear that your children's father is not supporting them. Evidently, his siblings and you don't get along well. Remember they are not under any obligation to support their brother's children. I am not saying that uncles and aunts should not assist their nieces and nephews from time to time but they should not be expected to support them.
Some men have to be forced to support their children. Perhaps this man is such a person. The problem is he is abroad and it is not easy to get someone who is living abroad to pay child support. Perhaps you should discuss this matter with an attorney at law.
