Harbour View await W'house

BY AINSLEY WALTERS, Staff Reporter

NOT A BALL was kicked on Sunday due to showers associated with Tropical Storm Wilma.

However, Wray and Nephew Premier League action resumes tomorrow with the weekend's full slate of games rescheduled and headlined by the top-of-the-table Harbour View-Waterhouse match-up at Compound.

With three rounds to go, a win for Harbour View would all but guarantee the Stars of the East a spot in the first round final plus extend their lead atop the standings.

"Our win column is looking good and I want to keep it that way," Hayles told STAR Sports. "We've to beat Waterhouse to put a foot into the end-of-round final," he said.

"It wouldn't mean we're clear but would give us the advantage of going for our first major trophy of the season."

Waterhouse coach Calvert Fitzgerald said nothing short of his team's best will do them any good.

"After eight games, to be four points ahead, they must be doing things right and must be dangerous opponents," he noted. "Nothing less than our 'A' game will get us anything out of the match plus we're desperately in need of a win to position us favourably to get a spot in the end-of-round final.

Waterhouse, similar to Harbour View, lost out in the semi-finals last year. However, the men from Drewsland have been inconsistent this season, especially in front of goal.

In eight games so far, only on one occasion have Waterhouse scored more than one goal.

"We have some good strikers, it's just that we're not getting the ball into the back of the net," lamented coach Calvert Fitzgerald.

"We're creating the opportunities so we've got three quarters of the equation right, it's just to complete it."

WATERHOUSE'S WOES

Waterhouse's woes were compounded after learning former national striker Onandi Lowe won't be able to join the club until the transfer window reopens on Boxing Day.

Kevin Lamey badly needs a striking partner to share the responsibilities in attack and Lowe had appeared to be the saviour when the club announced they were ready to sign him from Arnett Gardens.

Waterehouse's midfielders haven't been scoring either. Demar Phillips has failed to spark this season and Weston Forrest has also been goal shy.

Harbour View are fancied at home but if Waterhouse score first the Stars of the East could have trouble breaching their rivals'+-menacing defence.

"The aim is to maintain maximum points plus it's a league format and every single point counts from here," stressed Hayles, whose team will still be without injured Luton Shelton as well as banned Marcellino Blackburn.

However, the Stars of the East should welcome the return of Kevin King and Richard Edwards from suspension whereas injury has robbed Waterhouse of defender Marco McDonald and striker Roberto Fletcher.
