MAY PEN
FREDERICK RUSSELL WAS sentenced to seven days at hard labour for praedial larceny when he appeared in the May Pen Resident Magistrate's Court recently.
In pleading guilty to the charge, Russell, much to his chagrin, told Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown that he had not stolen the amount of fruits indicated by his accuser.
When questioned about this, the complainant Simroy Marshall, explained to the court that on the night in question he awoke to find one of his pear trees shaking. Upon investigating Russell, whom he had known for 38 years, was seen with a white bag and a pear picker. He said he counted 31 pears and when he enquired of Russell why he was stealing them he said the reply was: "A st mi did a st."
The allegations against Russell are that on September 20, 2005, he went to a pear farm and stole 31 pears from a tree. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
