'Spoilers' protests man's murder

RESIDENTS OF SPOILERS in Central Kingston on Monday blocked the Wildman and Charles Street intersection protesting Sunday night's murder of Delano Ducasse.

The residents say Ducasse, 16, was killed while coming from a peace meeting between Spoilers and the neighbouring Tel Aviv community. The communities have been warring recently.

Police say Ducasse, who lived on East Queen Street, was walking along the roadway when on reaching the intersection with Gold Street he was attacked by two men who shot him in the chest, abdomen and right foot. He was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital.

The residents say although there has been talk of peace they cannot walk on East Queen Street in peace. "Di man dem jus shot di yute so after him nuh do nutten. We caan go dung deh so. Everytime we walk dung deh is like a chance we a tek because di man dem mad fi kill we," said a resident.

BLOCKED ROAD

The residents burnt tyres and used other debris to block the road to vent their anger at the ongoing feud. The roadblock forced motorists to travel in the opposite direction of the one-way along North Street.

Residents said the feud started about three months ago and since then several persons have been killed or injured. They said they wanted the feud to end as it was a killing which started the conflict.

Meanwhile, the Kingston Central Police said based on information they have received they have identified two suspects in relation to the shooting, but have declined to release the identities of the men.
