THE METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE is closely watching the development of tropical depression number 27 which remains disorganised over the Eastern Caribbean Sea.

The Met Service warns that the depression could strengthen within the next 24 hours and become a tropical storm. The service also says if the depression continues on its current track, it should pass south of Jamaica by Friday.

At 4:00 p.m. yesterday the depression was located near Latitude 14.2 degrees north and Longitude 64.5 degrees west or about 380 kilometres west of St Lucia.

The depression is moving near 13 km per hour and this general motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. On this forecasted track, the centre of the system is expected to move south of Hispaniola on Wednesday before passing south of Jamaica on Friday.

The depression has maximum sustained winds of near 55 km with higher gust. The Met Service is urging people on the Pedro Bank to pay particular interest to further information about this system.
