Solving the Kintyre mystery

ON MONDAY, THE STAR lead story spoke about the plight some residents of Kintyre were facing with their houses falling apart.

The story said that since the rains associated with Hurricane Wilma, the residents' houses have started to crumble, although the island has not recorded an earthquake since that time.

Although the residents are uncertain as to what might be happening, it is clear that someone needs to explain the situation they have found themselves.

Already, they have suffered both mentally and financially because they are unaware of what is happening and the longer it takes for some research to be done, the more they will suffer.

Interestingly, the residents said they were told that geologists blamed the slippage on the erosion of sand from the bottom of the soil. Unfortunately, though, when that study was done or by whom, was not mentioned. But, whether that study was done 15 or 50 years ago, it is time the residents know what they are up against. While they have made it clear they have nowhere else to go, describing of the situation in which they are stuck, may convince them to find somewhere soon, as the current situation could result in lives being lost.
