WHAT HARDLEY GARICK thought was a simple lie, may end up costing him more than he bargained for.
Garick, 38, a taxi operator from Greenwich Town, St. Andrew, is charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. This from an incident on October 20.
Allegations are on the night in question, three armed men entered premises on First Street, Newport West and robbed patrons of cash and other items including a Nissan Sunny motorcar.
ABDUCTED PLANS
Three women were also abducted from the scene and were reportedly taken to the Greenwich Town football field where they were sexually assaulted.
One of the women managed to escape while the others have not been seen or heard from since and are presumed dead.
The police were called to the scene and the stolen vehicle along with a Toyota Corolla motorcar assigned to Garick, were found.
When he was approached by the officers, Garick reportedly told them that he left his car at his gate and that it must have been stolen or moved without his permission.
On a later occasion however, in his written statement, Garick admitted that he drove the men to the scene in his car. It was further reported that the robbers were scheduled to leave the scene in Garick's car, but were forced to abandon it when it refused to start. It is alleged that Garick, along with others, also helped the robbers to escape.
Garick is currently being held at the Hunts Bay Police Station and was to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday. It was however not brought up as the case file was not completed.
