No road for car thief

A MAN PLEADED guilty to stealing a motor car in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Tafari Tucker, 35, from Kingston 11, is to be sentenced on Tuesday for robbery with aggravation.

A stammering Tucker told the court that he had just returned from abroad and went with a friend to the Boulevard. He said the friend stopped the complainant's car and he got in the back, while his friend got in the front.

Tucker said his friend gave him a drill in a bag and told him to pull it on the complainant when he signalled him. The men then executed their plan and took the car.

Allegations are the Flying Squad carried out a raid at 501/2 Henderson Avenue, Kingston 11 in the St. Andrew South Police Area searching for guns, stolen cars and wanted men. On entering the premises at 5:30 am on November 25.

Tucker was seen entering the same premises with an object in his hand, he was stopped and found with a grey Panasonic cell phone with keypad taped on.

The police also searched under a mattress and a pair of license plates with number 2372DZ were found and a car key was found in his pants pocket. Further investigations revealed that the plates belonged to a 1990 Nissan motorcar robbed on November 5 near the Chinese Cemetery along Waltham Park Road

The accused later confessed in the presence of the police that he and another man stole the car and cell phone from the owner.

Senior Resident Magistrate, Sarah James, ordered the accused remanded until December 6 when he will be sentenced. A social enquiry was ordered to be done on Tucker.
