( L - R ) Beenie Man and Bounty Killer. - winston sill
STONE LOVE'S 33RD anniversary celebration, staged on Saturday, at the Mas Camp Village, Oxford Road, came to an unexciting end at minutes after 5:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, after a bit of tension brewed between Beenie Man and Bounty Killer.
Bounty Killer, the self-proclaimed 'Warlord', had been on stage with more than 20 other artistes when 'The Doctor', Beenie Man, walked up to get a taste of the action. But as soon as 'The Doctor' entered the stage, Bounty left and was followed by several persons.
SEEMINGLY SURPRISED
Beenie, seemingly surprised by the exodus, went on to 'big up' Bounty, claiming that he respected him and that together they had 'run' the dancehall for over ten years. He however proceeded to perform his song Hypocrite before calling up the lady who is reported to be Bounty's ex-girlfriend, D'Angel. He did pieces of two other songs before leaving the stage. At this point the patrons began to make their way to the exit, while members of the Stone Love crew continued juggling.
This showdown brought the curtains down on a rather disorganised party where the backstage area was jam-packed, too many awards were presented, too many sound systems juggled and the number of artistes present to perform was ridiculously large.
JUGGLING SEGMENT
Earlier there was a juggling segment with the likes of Rebel T, the Asylum DJs, Swatch International, Renaissance, Danger Zone, Metro Media, Stone Love, and several others running the turn table in what was supposed to be 15-minute sets. Many ignored the time limit and the promoters did not seem to see the importance of getting the artistes on stage until about 4:30 a.m., when the police threatened to shut down the show.
The performance segment was nothing to write home about. There was no single artiste who could have been pointed out as the 'star' of the night as each only got a chance to 'show his face.'
Dubbed the 'touch and go' segment, artistes came and did a few lines of a song and left. This annoyed patrons who turned up to see their favourite artistes and many complained openly.
Richie Spice's set was seven minutes long and in this time the artiste did six songs. Turbulence succeeded him on stage and did four songs in less than five minutes.
While the event was short on good, long performances, what it did not lack was fashion and flossing. Many patrons were seen with expensive alcoholic beverages and women sported rather sexy clothing that left little to the imagination.
