Waterhouse turn on the heat

BOUNCING TO THE lyrics of Baby Cham's 'Ghetto Story' after each of their four goals, Waterhouse took it to Village at Drewsland last evening, trouncing the men from Trelawny 4-1 to avenge their 1-3 first round loss in style.

Waterhouse's clinical display moved them to 31 points but still 11 off Harbour View, who whipped Arnett Gardens 3-0 to avenge their first round final loss.

Arnett fell to three second-half goals - Luton Shelton from the penalty spot in the 63rd, Donald Stewart from 35 yards in the 77th and Richard West from inside the area in the 90th minute.

Leading 2-0 off goals from Damion Williams in the fourth minute and Jomo Gordon in first-half stoppage time, new Waterhouse head coach Wayne Fairclough stuck to Calvert Fitzgerald's game book and called on Demar Phillips along with the deadly Kevin Lamey in the 65th minute.

ECSTATIC STRIKER

Lamey, who had scored coming off the bench in Waterhouse's last two games, set Drewsland afire two minutes after taking the field, dribbling across goal and feigning a shot every two yards before unleashing a right-footed grounder inside Allien Whittaker's left post to make it 3-0.

The ecstatic striker leapt the corner flagpole and the perimeter fencing in wild celebration as the home crowd lapped up every moment of their team's dominance.

In a rare Waterhouse defensive lapse, Village's Newton Sterling got a gift, almost on the goalline from a right-side cross, to tap past Maurice Evans, scoring his team's consolation goal in the 73rd minute.

However, that was the only thing Village had to smile about all night, as Lamey, the Drewsland Hitman, was again on target five minutes later, scoring on his third attempt with a header after Whittaker blocked his first two shots.

Leading 4-1, Waterhouse thought Lamey had the hat-trick in the bag when he cheekily won a penalty in the 85th minute, almost waiting for Howard Reid to bring him down in the area after being fed a pass by Phillips.

DEAR LOSS

However, Whittaker read Lamey's spot kick right, diving to his right to deny the forward what would have been his 11th goal of the season.

The loss cost Village dearly as they were leapfrogged in the standings by Tivoli Gardens, who moved from fifth to third on goal difference with a 2-0 win against Reno at the Edward Seaga Stadium.

Tivoli, who started the day fifth on 23 points, moved to 26, going past idle Portmore on goal difference while relegating Village to fifth on 24 points.

At the bottom of the table, Seba United skipped three points clear of the relegation zone after coming from behind to beat Rivoli 3-1 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

Results

Tivoli 2 Reno 0

Wadadah 1 Constant Spring 1

Rivoli 1 Seba 3
