MANNING CUP champions Calabar High have one hand on the Olivier Shield.

On Saturday, they defeated daCosta Cup winners Godfrey Stewart 2-1 in the first leg of the play-off and will start favourites to lift the shield on Wednesday.

Calabar looked the more comfortable on the ball throughout and deservedly took the lead in the 56th minute when Ramone Palmer scored. They then doubled the lead in the 71st minute with a Lennox Creary goal.

The losers got their consolation goal from captain Dwayne Williams who scored from the penalty spot in the 87th minute.

Winning coach David Hunt said his team played very well. "Having seen Godfrey Stewart,

I am confident we will get the better of them in the second leg," Hunt said after the game. Godfrey Stewart's Carl Palmer said his team played 'a bit flat' but will rebound in the second leg.
