Dedication to the Lord

BY GEORGE HENRY, STAR WRITER

Bishop Barrington DaCosta holding Jhanielle after he had pronounced God's blessings. - GEORGE HENRY

SPALDINGS, CLARENDON:

SUNDAY DECEMBER 4 was a significant milestone in the lives of Dena Brown, Eroldo Christie and their baby daughter Jhanielle. The occasion was the christening and dedication of Jhanielle at the Sanguinetti New Testament Church of God in Clarendon.

CEREMONY

Jhanielle, born at the Percy Junior Hospital in Manchester on October 3 this year, was blessed and dedicated during the divine worship segment, in front of a large audience under the leadership and inspiration of God by pastor of the church Bishop Barrington DaCosta.

Dressed in a white silk dress, the innocent little baby girl, whose bright eyes were all over the church, clutched to the arms of Sister Lesline Henry, an intern from the Bethel Bible College in Mandeville, Manchester, while she prayed God's blessings on her.

Flanked by her parents, god-parents and the church choir, dressed in their lavender gowns, the baby girl, who at times gave an expected cry or two, not being used to the arms of strangers, looked on as if at times she understood what was taking place.

Prior to pronouncing Jhanielle blessed, Bishop DaCosta said he recognised that there have been several women who refused to take their babies into the world but Dena was not one of those who fall in that category.

He said Jhanielle's mother decided to take her into the world, despite the many challenges associated with doing so. Bishop DaCosta pointed out that though mothers experience some degree of difficulties during pregnancy, some good ones, like Jhanielle's, bore her's and decided to take the baby into the world, to be dedicated to God. He congratulated Dena for a job well done.

He encouraged the unwed parents to get married so they could continue to set good examples for their daughter.

Little Jhanielle's blessing and dedication ceremony was the sixth such ceremony to be held at the church since January. Jhanielle's godparents are Glendon McDonald, Anthony Dunkley, Marion Blake-Foster, Angella Morgan and Fionie Collins.
