FIVE PERSONS WERE shot and killed in different communities across the island on Monday. Two were murdered in Denham Town, another two in May Pen, Clarendon and one in Portmore, St.Catherine.
At about 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, gunmen invaded a section of Arnett Gardens known as Havana. Troy Solomon, 23, otherwise called Tyty, and Wayne Mitchell, 30, both of Arnett Gardens addresses were shot and killed as they sat talking by the roadside. The Denham Town police surmise that the shootings are the latest in an ongoing battle between various factions in the community. The police have so far apprehended one suspect who is currently being held in custody.
Though his name was not disclosed, a senior officer at the station revealed that he was a notorious 'shooter' and that upon his arrest "droves of women swarmed the streets to protest". In response to these shootings, the police say they will be increasing their foot and mobile patrols and will be implementing more buffer zones in the area.
In Clarendon, two higglers fell victim to gunmen's exploits as they stood by their stalls on Stork Street, May Pen on Monday. Dead are Kent Campbell, 24, of the Glenmuir Housing Scheme and Anthony Arthurs, 42, of a Windsor Avenue, May Pen address. Reports are that at about 6:45 p.m., the two were at their stalls when they were approached by two men armed with hand guns. The men opened fire hitting the victims several times. They were pronounced dead at the May Pen Hospital.
Norris Douse otherwise called Blacks, of a Newlands, Portmore address, is the fifth victim. Douse was murdered at about 10:30 p.m. last night. It is reported that he was standing at a shop when he was approached by an armed man who shot him several times.
