Seaforth under siege

THE USUALLY QUIET community of Seaforth, St.Thomas is slowly becoming a thorn in the skin of law enforcers in the parish. In less than two months, there have been four shootings in the community and since the first shooting in late October, the area has been gripped in high tension.

The Seaforth police say the violence is part of an ongoing feud between Blacksmith, Navarre and School Lanes in the community. They also suggest that the crimes may have been politically motivated as the various lanes all support different political parties. The police also believe that gunmen are being imported from other communities.

The latest victims of the flare up are Dave Ramsey and Ryan Edwards, both of Seaforth addresses. Both were shot on separate occasions, while standing in the Seaforth square. Ramsey was hospitalised while Edwards was treated and released.

In response to these latest shootings, the Seaforth police say they have stepped up their patrols and have been doing more searches in the area. They have also cordoned certain sections of the troubled communities. The police say they have received information about the main persons involved in the crimes, but the leads they have followed thus far have proved fruitless.
