Jamaicans among indoor winners

FORMER JAMAICA JUNIOR representative Davita Prendergast was a triple winner at last weekend's Saluki Fast Start Indoor Meet held at the SIU Recreational Center in Carbondale.

Prendergast had victories in the 200m, 400m and mile relay. Three other Jamaicans, Wilbert Walker, Decosma Wright, and Maresia Pencil were also winners.

In the women's 400m, Prendergast of Lincoln University won the event in 55.29 seconds ahead of former Jamaican junior representative Nickeisha Anderson of Missouri Baptist (56.54).

Prendergast returned to win the 200m in 24.59, again ahead of Anderson, who finished in 24.61. Former Edwin Allen student Sherline Duncan, representing Missouri Baptist was fifth in 25.68.

THIRD GOLD

In the 4x400m relay, Prender-gast won her third gold when she teamed up with Nakita McCree, Carla Thomas, and Meisha Thompson to run 3:56.70 ahead of Missouri Baptist University 'A' 3:59.22.

The Missouri Baptist University team included Duncan and Pencil.

Walker, a former Morant Bay student now representing Lincoln won the men's triple jump in a National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) provisional record of 15.87 metres ahead of Andre Black of Louisville (15.11m).

Walker had earlier finished fifth in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.20m. The event was won by Andre Black who leapt a NCAA provisional record 7.59m.

In the men's 60m hurdles, national senior representative Wright of Lincoln ran a NCAA Provisional record 7.86 seconds to beat fellow Jamaican and Lincoln teammate Pete Smith (8.20). The women's 600m went to Pencil of Missouri Baptist in 1:36.77.

She won ahead of team-mate Denele DeVerteuil (1:37.29).

In the women's 60m, former Edwin Allen student Sherline Duncan, representing Missouri Baptist, placed second in 7.73 behind Karen Robinson of Lincoln (7.57).
