Center Stage with Keiva Hibbert

Keiva with several of the dancing trophies - CARLINGTON WILMOT

Stage name: Keiva

Real name: Keiva Hibbert

Birth month: February

How did you get started in the business: "It started when I grew up in Drews Land. General Trees was married to my cousin and every day we used to go and party down by General Super Disco, so it was basically a musical environment. Then I did my first video when I was 13 years old, it was a General Trees song called More Money."

What has been your greatest challenge in the business yet:

"I would say it is getting to this point. When I just started out I was getting a lot of fight from people, especially women. Even when I came on 'The Party', and some of the girls used to be like, 'she nuff eeh.' But the more them hold me down, I used to just sit down and cry sometimes. But it's those things that make me strong."

What have you been up to lately:

"Right now I am choreographing some moves with my dance group, Cosmic Dancers, who are three guys...And I have some new videos and shows coming up."

Are you happy with the way things are going for your career right now:

"Very happy, because I mean I can remember the days when I had to struggle...Now I have my own car and things like that and the only thing that I need to worry about is finding gas. I remember one time when Gleaner called me for an interview and we couldn't find a ride to come, so we had to end up riding a bicycle there and some other places. You can imagine riding a bicycle from Drews Land to North Street? So I give God thanks everyday for the things that I've achieved."

Anything you'd like to change about it:

"No I don't think so. I don't like doing things that I will regret, and if God didn't intend for me to do it, it wouldn't happen. "

What is your future plan:

"I want to open a dance school and teach kids how to dance and I would love to have a shoes, store, I love shoes."

Do you have any advice for young dancers coming up:

"Don't dance because you see Keiva and Mad Michelle dancing. Dance because you love to do it and keep your heart clean and pure. Be kind and love each other, because that's what God would want."
