54 years as a Christian and still serving

BY GEORGE HENRY, STAR WRITER
SPALDINGS, CLARENDON:

REVEREND Reginald Foster has been closely walking with God for the past 54 years, having been saved in 1951.

Reverend Foster has been in the pastorate for ten years of his almost five and a half decades of journey with his God. Two of those years were spent in leading his flock at a New Testament Church of God in England. The other eight years were spent at the Baillieston Full Truth Deliverance Centre in Clarendon.

The returning resident, who hails from Lodgie Green in north-west Clarendon, told THE STAR that his walk with God started out of a concern for the level of deprivation and the poverty which existed at the time, as well as the future that was ahead of him.

He noted that the Bible scriptures, 'seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all things shall be added unto you', and 'how can a young man cleanse his ways but by taking heed to the Word', helped him to make up his mind to serve Christ.

"By reading the Word of God I got conviction and accepted Christ. Those two scriptures helped to carry me during the latter part of my school life," said Rev. Foster.

He stated that the first ten years of being a Christian were very good for him spiritually. During that time he became a deacon at his church, the Wisbeach New Testament Church of God, also in Clarendon.

Rev. Foster's work as a pastor for the eight years he has been back in Jamaica has been good, he says.

This he attributes to the experience of leading his church in England. He said his work in the church has been made easy because he interacts with the people in the community. For this, the minister has won the respect of hundreds of persons.

Rev. Foster says he enjoys his work as a minister because he is able to make valuable contributions to the lives of persons rather than make a living for himself out of church work.

Like many Christians, Rev. Foster points out that he has experienced a practical and personal incident of divine healing.

"I was diagnosed with a lump in my left breast and was referred to a surgeon who told me that he would charge me $25,000 to do the operation. The $25,000 I had was for my church rally, so I went to the church and told the brethren that 'here is $25,000, if you want to give it to the doctor then it is up to you'. They prayed for me and I was healed," said the man of faith.

The pastor, who is married to Hortense Christie and is the father of five children, is calling on Christians throughout the world, Jamaica in particular, to be true and honest to both the saved and the unsaved, while having a good rapport with them.

He noted that if these qualities exist among Christians then the sky will be the limit for them in the sight of God. As for Jamaica, Reverend Foster says it is his prayer that the entire nation exercise the virtues of honesty and truth.
