THE LEAD STORY in Monday's STAR brings to the fore a very comical incident where a 13-year-old cross-dressing delinquent boy was taken to a Place of Safety for girls.
However, when one looks at this story carefully, we see plainly that it is no joking matter.
The story states that the juvenile drove away a teacher's motor vehicle without permission and met in an accident. He was charged with driving away a motor vehicle and malicious destruction of property.
He gave the police a girl's name and he was wearing fake breasts, made of plastic bags and tissue paper in a brassiere.
While some may state that this is nothing new in Jamaica, it does not deny the fact that the boy in the story is a very disturbed child.
But one school of thought is that he is simply a product of our perverted society. Now, people see a man wearing female pants and with his hair processed and wearing more jewellery than some women, without raising an eyebrow or batting an eye lid.
Whatever some may believe, this is not normal behaviour. This is behaviour borne out of warped minds.
But this story points out that we need to be more vigilant in helping our children stay on the right moral course. They are vulnerable and impressionable and the only way for us to help them is to provide good examples.
