THE HARBOUR VIEW train continued to roll atop the Wray and Nephew National Premier League yesterday with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Village United at Compound.
Village got their go-ahead goal in the fourth minute from a Newton Sterling header but were pegged back by a long range 16th minute effort from Harbour View's Nicholas Dodd.
Harbour View got their winner from substitute Richard West in the 78th minute.
The victory for the 'Stars of the East' maintained their 13-point lead on the Premier League field with 48 points. Waterhouse are second with 35.
Waterhouse got to their tally with a 1-0 win over Rivoli at Drewsland. Desmond Breakenridge got on the scoresheet to keep Waterhouse in the hunt behind Harbour View.
Tivoli (28 points) were the only movers as their 1-1 draw with sixth-place Arnett helped them leapfrog Village (27 and fourth) and defending champions Portmore United (27 and fifth on goal average).
Portmore fell behind in their second game since being crowned Caribbean Champions, beaten by a Rohan Reid double that gave Wadadah a rare victory at Jarrett park.
WINNING GOAL
The victory helped Wadadah (16) maintain 10th place, three points clear of the relegation zone where Rivoli (13) and Constant Spring (12), who notched their first win of the Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Reno at the Spring Complex.
The winning goal in that game came from Daemion Benjamin.
In the feature game at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium, the hosts started slowly and it was clear the tall Sterling would have caused trouble.
In the air he had no match and Village did well to find him with long searching balls from their back four.
Harbour View did little in the way of coping and it was no surprise when he turned up to head home a Nicardo Folkes cross.
Harbour View got back into the game without showing any real superiority.
Dodd picked up a ball on the right side and with time and space tried a cross that inexplicably ended in the back of the net off the inside of the far post.
At 1-1, Village suffered a massive blow to their attack as a clash between the hard tackling Richard Edwards and Sterling ended with both players heading to an early shower.
After that, Harbour View were in the driver's seat and never looked too troubled at the back.
They never looked particularly threatening going forward either but they did have a few chances go a-begging.
"I'm not pleased with the run of play and the way we performed in terms of the football but what this is showing me is that this team has the character to win all the time," commented Harbour View coach Donovan Hayles.
Eventually it was a cross from Dodd that brought the winner.
The cross found Luton Shelton, whose header was parried by Village goalie Elvis Hart. The partial block, to the dismay of the Village faithful, was stabbed home by the fast approaching West.
After the game an obviously disappointed Dean Weatherley said his team was a little unfortunate.
"I think it was a well played game by both teams and it is just unfortunate that we came out on the losing end," he said.
