JUST CALL HIM Mr. Palmer from now on. Top-flight deejay Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adidjah Palmer, got married yesterday in a private ceremony before a marriage officer at the Registrar General Department branch office, in Trevennion Park in St. Andrew.

The bride, 31-year-old bank supervisor Stacy Elliott, who lives in The Bronx, New York, looked stunning in a white chiffon dress, while Vybz Kartel was the essence of thug chic in a black suit, with a white shirt, his 'bling bling' jewellery, and white Mondini Italian leather shoes.

Vybz Kartel did not appear nervous at all before the afternoon ceremony, and joked around before the couple said their 'I dos' in front of marriage officer Ronald Grey, and two witnesses, one of whom was Norris Palmer, Kartel's father. None of Kartel's celebrity friends were present.

In an exclusive interview with THE WEEKEND STAR, he revealed that he popped the question to the love-of-his-life last week.

"Last week, mi just get up mad and decide fi do it. Is like mi get a wedding fever from wha day because my baby mother's mother got married recently, and I was the best man for the groom, so I just decided to do it. I flew her in from New York for the wedding, and it's all good, I am in love, I am happy, this is just glorious," he gushed while holding hands with his beaming bride.

After the nuptials, the couple was whisked away to a wedding reception at Havendale, St. Andrew. While there, Kartel posed for the photographers, with his son, Jaheim, and his bride, and cracked jokes with his entourage of friends.

Kartel met Stacy at a stage show where he performed alongside Bounty Killer in 2001 in Brooklyn, New York, and the two immediately hit it off.

"From the first time I met her, I knew she was special. So we talked a couple of times on the phone, it wasn't a groupie thing, and we just fell in love little by little. When I am in New York, me and har roll straight, we can talk, we can reason, she has her own thing going on. Love is great ... y' know, don't get it twisted, a thug can fall in love," he said, laughing.

He plans to honeymoon in Montego Bay.

CHANGING IMAGE

"I never got cold feet, I woke up this morning looking forward to getting married. I am getting older, I am changing my image. The girls might say that I am already taken, but I guess they just have to work with it and hope," he said, flashing his trademark smile.

Kartel's new bride, Stacy, grew up in Kingston before migrating to the United States at age eight.

"I love his personality, he is fun-loving, and very smart, and I believe he is misunderstood, he has good qualities. From the moment I met him, I fell in love with him, and when he proposed last week, I wasn't surprised at all," she said.

She will return to the Bronx in the new year after honeymooning in Jamaica. Asked if the marriage might soften him before Sting next week, he laughed and said:

"Yu mad! Sting ah go mash up next week when mi touch the stage, ah my place, Portmore for sure, mad ting."
