Man charged with theft - Lifted cologne from shelf

A MAN WHO was caught stealing a bottle of cologne from MegaMart was sentenced to nine months imprisonment at hard labour, suspended for two years on Wednesday.

Peter Lewis was charged on December 14, after he was accosted by the store's security guard. When he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, he pleaded guilty to simple larceny.

CRASHED INTO DOOR

The court heard that about 11:00 a.m. on December 14, the guard was at the store's exit checking receipts, when the accused man ran past and crashed into the door. He reportedly got up and ran off, the guard gave chase and he was held and charged.

When questioned by RM Martin Gayle as to his motive, he told the court that he was not working at the time.
