Robbers escape with $100K in tech goods

BY RASBERT TURNER, STAR Writer

spanish town

THIEVES BROKE INTO a business place on Beckford Street in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, making off with computers, CDs, CPUs and other accessories valued at more than $100,000.

The property, operated by Rosemarie Green, chairperson of Spanish Town Citizens Against Gun Violence, caters to the needs of several inner-city children aged 12-16 from Tawes, Ellerslie and Gordon pens, among other areas.

NO SIGN OF BREAK-IN

Although there were no obvious signs of break-in, Mrs. Green told THE WEEKEND STAR she was on the Mandela Highway on December 13 about 10:00 a.m., when she received a call that her place was broken into.

"Right now I cannot do much talking as my pressure is high and I did not expect that someone would break down my place after I believe so much in Spanish Town," she said.

The returning resident said it was a sad day for her as several students who turned up for regular classes had to return home.

The St. Catherine North police are doing further investigations into the break-in. Several business persons in the area also complained that as the festive season nears, break-ins and robberies have become more frequent.
