Woman held for stabbing hubby

BY GARETH DAVIS, Staff Writer

PORTLAND:

POLICE IN PORTLAND have held Elizabeth Wilberforce of a Windsor Forest address in the parish, with the stabbing death of her 40-year-old common-law husband, Selvin Lindsay, on Wednesday.

The police say on Tuesday, December 20, Mr. Lindsay, a farmer, was playing dominoes at a nearby shop, about 9:25 p.m., when he was approached by his common-law wife.

The police say that an argument developed, and the woman allegedly pulled a ratchet knife. Lindsay was stabbed in the left side of the chest. The wounded man was rushed to the Port Antonio General Hospital by residents, where he was treated and admitted, but later died.

Detectives from the Port Antonio CIB, said the woman was picked up on Wednesday and taken into custody. The CIB detectives also said the woman has been arrested on reasonable suspicion, but is not yet charged.

Police, who are still carrying out their investigations, said the woman and the deceased have been involved in frequent verbal clashes in the past, and that the situation may have worsened after the man failed to honour a promise made to the woman, for this festive season.
