King-size deal for Marlon

Marlon King - FILE

LONDON, CMC

REGGAE BOY MARLON King is set to join Championship Watford during the January transfer window for a fee of half million pounds sterling, after agreeing personal terms with the club he has scored 12 goals for this season.

The 25-year old was released on loan to Watford after falling out of favour at Nottingham Forest and after a sublime season, manager Aidy Boothroyd has decided to exercise the 'Option to Buy' loan clause in the player's contract.

"I am delighted to have tied up the formalities with Aidy and the Watford board," King told the club's media yesterday.

"Aidy has given me the opportunity to show what I am capable of as a player and I have done my very best to repay the faith shown in me."

He continued: "My overall goal is to play in the Premier League. I believe that I will be doing so in the very near future wearing the colours of Watford."

King, whose goal-scoring touch this season has made him the toast of the English Championship, praised Boothroyd's influence on his career and noted that the manager's recent long-term commitment to the club weighed in on his decision.

"The manager has had a tremendous influence on me. He is a one-off. He is the best manager I have ever worked with," King explained.

"The fact he has been prepared to sign for the club for a long time meant an awful lot to me. I want to work with him because under Aidy's guidance I know I can become an even better player."

King's form has seen Watford go third in the Championship on 39 points behind Sheffield United on 53 points and leaders Reading, on 59 points.

They have lost just once in 11 League outings.
