Tranmere releases 'Tappa'

Theodore Whitmore - FILE

london (cmc):

JAMAICA INTERNATIONAL Theodore "Tappa" Whitmore is in search of a new club after his contract with English League One Tranmere Rovers was cancelled by mutual consent.

"He hasn't been able to gain a regular place this season, so we have given him the opportunity to move on," long-time boss Brian Little told the north-west England club's media.

"He is someone I have known for a long time who has been a very good player for me and I wish him every success in the future."

The 33-year-old midfielder joined Tranmere from Livingston in the summer of 2004 but has made just five substitute appearances for the club this season.

Perhaps his best time with the club came in October 2004 when he scored a double in a 3-1 over Huddersfield.

Whitmore was a member of the Jamaica team on its historic outing at the 1998 World Cup in France.
