Cops investigate possible hit-and-run death

BY GARETH DAVIS, STAR Writer

PORTLAND

Police in Portland are investigating the circumstances which have led to the death of a man, whose body was found along the Priest Man's River main road, on Thursday.

The police say the body was discovered by a motorist at about 3:45 a.m., lying in the middle of the road. The motorist, who was travelling towards Port Antonio, spotted the body and alerted the police.

The man, who is not yet identified, was clad in blue jeans and a multi coloured shirt, and measured approximately 1.5 metres and weighed about 190 pounds or 94 kilograms.

The police have also theorised that the man may have been the victim of a hit-and-run incident, as his shoes were found lying more than 10 metres from the body. The police also said that other body parts, resembling the brain and marrow, were found along the roadway.

Meanwhile residents are claiming that the absence of street lights in that area may have contributed to the man's death, as that section of the road is poorly lit. The residents say they are appealing to the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) to quickly install street lights to the area, so as to eliminate any further accidents.
