LLOYD GAUNTLETT, A farmer from Stanley Terrace, Kingston 19, learned that having a licensed firearm is serious business, as he was brought before the court on Wednesday because the weapon had disappeared.
The 54-year-old pleaded guilty in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. He was fined $2,000 or 30 days and his fingerprints were also ordered taken by Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle.
Allegations are that about 9:00 a.m. on December 21, Gauntlett went to the Constant Spring Police Station and reported that on December 20 at 6:00 a.m., he placed a .38 Smith and Wesson firearm revolver with serial number 161567, in a chest of drawers.
When he returned to retrieve the gun at 1:00 a.m. on December 21, the gun was missing. Police from the station visited his premises where they searched for the weapon.
The police noted that the chest of drawer had no lock or protective device that would ensure the weapon's safety. Gauntlett was subsequently arrested and charged with loss of a firearm by negligence.
