london, england cmc:
ENGLAND'S SELECTORS HAVE added top young shooter Louisa Brownfield to their squad for their tour of Jamaica as the two highly-ranked world teams step up preparation for the Commonwealth Games in March.
Brownfield was among the 12 players, who arrived in Jamaica yesterday for the three-match Test series starting Thursday in Kingston.
TEST CONDITIONS
Brownfield was part of the England Under-21 squad that took the silver medal - behind champions New Zealand - at the World Youth Championships in Florida last year July and won three senior international caps against Australia in 2004.
"With the final squad to represent England at the Commonwealth Games to be named on January 30 , the addition of Louisa to the touring party will provide the selectors with a final opportunity to view her in action under Test conditions," Nigel Holl, England netball's performance director said.
Holl believes the outing against world number three ranked Jamaica will be valuable to their Commonwealth Games preparations.
"Louisa's addition will encourage the whole squad to perform at its best in what promises to be a challenging Test series against the world's number- three ranked nation," he said.
The three-match Test series will be England's last competitive challenge before the side's Commonwealth Games netball competition starts on March 17 against Malawi.
Currently ranked fourth in the world, the England team will be looking to achieve a podium position in Melbourne and their matches against Jamaica are slated for Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
At the March 15-26 Commonwealth Games in Australia, England will play in Group B with South Africa, New Zealand, St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), Malawi, and Fiji.
Group A will have reigning gold medallists Australia, facing Jamaica, Barbados, Samoa, Wales and Singapore.
