Black-er - FILE
BLACK-ER STRUCK BACK verbally at the Twin of Twins on Monday night, as four days of concerts climaxed at the Vin Lawrence Park in Trench Town, Kingston.
And it was a double blow, as he replied to the Twins calling him 'Black-her', notably at Red Label East Fest 2005, held at the Goodyear Oval, Morant Bay, St. Thomas, on December 30.
There were cheers especially from the ladies when he stepped on stage to join Baby Cham, who had taken over from Turbulence after he ended a strong set with Notorious.
He instructed the girls lyrically to jump around and they did, delightedly, before Black-er addressed the Twins, who had performed before THE STAR got to the park at 2:00 a.m.
"Me no deal wid bman. Anyone call a man a woman is a bman. We no chat to bman," Black-er said, going on to deliver Attitude as the ladies screamed.
"When me sing da song yah, every man whe sex ooman get more woman. From a gal a gi har man bun, she wi carry de ppcome gi yuh," Black-er said.
He did not have to sing much of Bun Him, as the women gleefully screamed not only Macka Diamond's lines but also Black-er's, the men being strikingly silent.
And after Black-er had come on stage and deejayed a few lines, Baby Cham commented: "Me hear sey people a bun de deejay. Yu fi low ghetto people. Yu have some bway a get bun cause dem a beat de gal."
THE LADIES CHEERED
For the two hours THE STAR was at the Vin Lawrence Park, Mikey General, Luciano and Spragga Benz, the last in an extended performance, kept the Marley birthday celebration on the expected 'conscious level'. In fact, after Spragga said "We haffi do a one ting fi de ladies" and delivered a few lines of Backshot, he said: We nah mek it get too slack and dirty, because we haffi remember why we deh yah".
Mikey General with Unseen Blessings and Luciano, who was highly appreciated with Messenger and It's Me Again Jah, as well as when he sang "This one is for the leaders", were never in any danger of getting anywhere near slack, before the night went hardcore.
Working with a substandard sound quality, as did all the performers, Baby Cham delivered Ghetto Story in parts, the first 'ra ra' coming before Black-er's performance and the second after he left the stage, to a chorus of voices and a forest of upraised hands.
Alozade hailed up Garden and various tough areas, while Kip Rich dropped Liquer to the delight of the audience. Telephone Ting hit hard, then Kip Rich turned the phone into an informer call with "is a 3310 Zion Train". Hawkeye hailed Trench Town as real top a top.
The audience wanted more of 'Kippo' and they got it, singing Letter line for line, before THE STAR left with the gate prize draw at 10:00 a.m., Gyptian among those the MC said was yet to come.
