DINTHILL TECHNICAL HIGH School yesterday secured its place in the second round of the TVJ Schools' Challenge Quiz by defeating Black River High School.

Tamor Blake, coach of the Dinthill team, said she felt her team was evenly matched with Dinthill, however, they fell in the 'minutes' section and that affected their chance to win the match. "The match was fairly easy. At the end of the first section we were evenly poised but Dinthill played well, especially in the 'minutes' section and we needed to do better in that section," she said.

By the end of section one, it was still anybody's match as both teams ended with six points each. Dinthill missed a number of opportunities to increase its score including an English question requiring them to give the superlative of 'well.' Dinthill incorrectly answered the question as 'well' while the answer was 'best.'

Black River also missed opportunities to increase its score, including a visual question requiring them to identify a movie. They incorrectly identified the movie as Last Friday when the answer was Next Friday.

In section two of the match, both teams worked even harder, but Dinthill answered most of its questions correctly and increased their score in this round. They ended the round with 24 points while Black River ended with 16 points. They later got a point for a question that had been judged wrong in the section bring up their score to 17 points.

In section three, a few wrong answers cost Black River the necessary points to secure the win and, in the end, Dinthill took the victory with 30 points while Black River lost by nine points, ending with 21.

Christopher Pitterson and Michael Daley, coaches of the Dinthill team, applauded their team's performance. In a performance which they described as 'magnificent', the coaches said their team maintained composure which was an important part of their strategy. The coaches said they will be working on the weakness which they have identified, so they will return sharper in their next match.

Members of the Black River team are: Trevon Salmon, Ana- Kaye Dawkins and Davian Allen (captain).

Members of the Dinthill team are Peter-John Rowe: (captain), Kerron Thompson, Chenee Cytall and Omar A. Francis.
