THE HUNTS BAY police recovered two high-powered weapons and a man was shot and injured in Waltham Park Road area yesterday.
The police seized an M-16 rifle with nepolite sight technology and a Tech Nine sub-machine gun.
The police said they seized the gun following a shoot-out between themselves and two men at 57 Waltham Park Road which is popularly known as Mongoose Town.
Police reports are that they went on a raid in the Waltham Park area at 10:15 a.m. yesterday when two men, one of whom was wanted, fired at them. The police returned fire and one was shot and injured. The other man allegedly ran leaving behind the M16.
Deputy Superintendent Oswald Ayre, in charge of operations at St. Andrew South told THE STAR that they recovered the Tech Nine from the injured man.
Ayre said it was the first time they were seeing a rifle with that type of technology and added that while Colt was known to be the company which manufactured such rifles, the gun did not have any markings indicating who had made it.
He also said the features were different from a normal rifle. Ayre said that the nepolite sight was dangerous especially at night as it was something like a laser light. However it could not be detected by the target and was only visible to the person using it.
In the meantime the police continue to hunt for the other man who is wanted for several counts of shooting and illegal possession of firearm in the division.
