POPULAR PEOPLE'S NATIONAL Party (PNP) activist Tony Welsh was on Tuesday arrested and charged with murder by Operation Kingfish in relation to the death of Damion Hussey who was stabbed to death in Golden Spring, St. Andrew, on January 15.
Welsh, a one-time crime boss, was taken into custody two weeks ago for questioning in connection with the January 15 fatal stabbing of Hussey in Golden Spring, St. Andrew.
He was charged after members of Operation Kingfish said they were able to secure additional evidence which led to him being arrested and charged for Hussey's murder although his attorney had objected to an identification parade.
Allegations are that on January 15, Mr. Hussey was reportedly attacked by persons in a motorcade travelling from PNP Presidential hopeful Dr. Peter Phillips' campaign launch. It is reported that around 8:45 pm, Hussey was at home with his girlfriend and heard a commotion at his gate. He went to see what was going on and was set upon, beaten and stabbed several times by a mob after the crowd alleged that the bus in which they were travelling was stoned while going through the area.
However, residents later blocked the roads to protest Hussey's death and explained he had nothing to do with the stone throwing. Welsh was later identified as being one of the masterminds behind the stabbing and was taken into custody a few days later.
