NEWCOMERS IONA HIGH were yesterday eliminated from TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz competition after they were defeated by Clarendon College, 33-9.
Iona High won the coin toss, but decided to send Clarendon College to face the first question. From the very start of the match, Clarendon College established their seniority and handled the questions thrown at them quite well. They ended the segment on 11 points. Iona High, on the other hand, had a fairly young team and found it hard to handle the questions. They trailed on three points.
The second section saw Iona trying desperately to improve their points standing. Despite this effort, they managed to only secure six points in the entire section, bringing their total to nine points. Clarendon College, however, cemented their lead in this segment and amassed 14 points, ending the segment on 25 points.

Section three of the match did little to bring excitement to the uneventful match. Clarendon College ran away with the lead and the St. Mary-based Iona was forced to watch. Iona buzzed once in the entire section and this added two points to their score. The match ended in an anti-climactic way, with Clarendon on 33 and Iona on 11. Iona, however, lost two points for answering after the final bell, and their score was reduced to nine.
Clarendon College's captain, Javon Dunbar, said: "Well, a victory is victory any day, but based on our training, it's disappointing, but for the next match, we'll be coming back stronger."
Iona's captain, "Derron Pottinger, was positive in defeat. "We did what we could, we did our best and I'm satisfied."
