houston, texas (cmc):
FORMER CARIFTA GAMES champions Melaine Walker and Carlene Robinson were among a quartet of Jamaican winners at various indoor track and field meets this past weekend.
Walker logged a fine sprint-hurdles win at the Houston Invitational and Robinson easily toppled a 500-metre field at the Meyo Invitational, as the two continued their build up for next month's NCAA Indoor Nationals.
At the University of Houston, triple CARIFTA gold medallist Walker, now representing Texas, outsped Raquel Washington (8.17) and Lauren Smith (8.31) to win the women's 60-metre hurdles in 8.10 seconds at the Houston Invitational.
Robinson, who won three consecutive CARIFTA Games Under-20 800 metres titles from 2001 to 2003, was unchallenged as she won the 500 for Illinois in one minute 12.92, chased by Tara Colvin (1:13.43) and Pam Wolf (1:14.26) at the Meyo Invitational in Indiana.
Carlene's sister, Camille Robinson, also of Illinois, was fifth in the 60-metre hurdles in a personal best 8.58 seconds.
Meanwhile, Wilbert Walker and Decosmo Wright posted wins at the Hoosier Relays in Bloomington, Indiana.
Walker, a CARIFTA Games double silver medallist in 2004, won the long jump in a personal best 7.53 metres and the triple jump, also in a personal best 16.27 metres. And Wright topped the men's 60-metre hurdles field in a personal best 7.72 seconds.
