WHILE THE BLACK-ER song declaring Bun Him is all the rage with the ladies in the dancehall these days, a different kind of bunning was taking place in Spanish Town two days ago.
Someone caught up with 'One Order' boss 'Bun Man' and certainly 'bun him' with gunshots as he sat in his car. Then, as the inevitable rioting started and the fury of the mob was vented on the old Spanish Town courthouse, the caretaker of the premises was caught up in the melee and somebody 'bun him'.
It seems there is 'bunning' all around.
Coming hard on the heels of the death of 'Bulbie' from the other side of the political fence, one thing is very clear: No matter how powerful and rooted in the Spanish Town area, there is a move afoot to eradicate the dons of Spanish Town. And from where we sit, it is certainly working.
There is, of course, the matter of succession. But the supposed 'orderliness' and 'clannish' nature of these groups that are delicately termed organisations, is often exposed when the supreme leader goes and there is a scramble to succeed him. This newspaper reported some time ago that in the aftermath of 'Bulbie's death there has been a bloody housekeeping of his top lieutenants, as the way is supposedly paved for a new 'big man' to come in.
Whether or not this will be the case on the greener side of the fence remains to be seen. There is the matter of the gangster equivalent of a state funeral to go through first (again).
No matter how big the man, there is a curious thing that happens when they fall, as did 'Chubby Dread' late last year.
They look mighty small.
