A MAN WHO broke into the house of a female teacher at Centre Cut in Spaldings, Clarendon, in December 2004 and stabbed her several times was sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison when he appeared in the Mandeville Circuit Court on February 15.
He is Wayne Andrade of Alston in North West Clarendon.
Court files indicate on December 18, 2004 about 1:00 a.m., Andrade, who was a gardener at the house reportedly gained entry to the building by taking out several panes of glass from a kitchen window.
Andrade reportedly took a knife and went into the complainant's bedroom stabbing her several times all over her body.
The complainant who was at home with her 14-year-old daughter at the time had to be rushed to the Percy Junor Hospital where she was treated and admitted in a serious condition. Her daughter was not injured.
Investigations carried out by the Spaldings Police resulted in Andrade being arrested. His trial took place over several months and concluded last Wednesday when Justice Patrick Brooks sentenced him to 18 years in prison.
Andrade was given four years for burglary, eight years for wounding and six years for wounding with intent. However, the sentences will run concurrently and so Andrade will only be serving a total of eight years in prison.
