RESIDENTS OF MOUNT Royal Estate in Portmore continue to have a problem where water is concerned.
As a result, several residents from the area took to the streets last Monday morning, blocking Port Henderson Road, in protest against the lack of the precious commodity.
Residents claim that for the last four months their taps have been running dry and they do not know who to turn to.
"Since November last year we have not seen any water running in the pipes and as a result things are not good. We have to pay $1600-1800 weekly for water and this has proven to be very costly on the residents; we need this to stop now," remarked Shawn Moncrieffe, one of the residents.
The residents claimed their woes began when the developer of the Mount Royal Estate Development Corporation failed to pay money owed to the NWC, and certain guidelines such as a tank to hold at least 100 gallons of water, were not adhered to.
As a result, they say, they are unable to get individual water meters and are now being told that they have to fork out $10,000,000.
