IN WHAT COULD be described as the ultimate battle of the sexes, Immaculate High were yesterday defeated by the number nine seed Wolmer's Boys in the second match of Round Two of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz.

The Immaculate team was the essence of female power, and during their introductions expressed that they were motivated by various female leaders. The first segment was evenly contested and it was clear that both came for the win. This section ended with Immaculate on six and Wolmer's Boys ahead on eight.

MORE COMPETITIVE

Segment Two of the match was even more competitive. Both teams used this round to significantly increase their scores and although Wolmer's managed to gain a few more points than Immaculate, the game was far from over. Wolmer's Boys also brought some humour when they answered the question, 'The song On and On was featured on which of Erykah Badu's albums?' To this they replied, "The second one." When probed by the host for the name of the album, they gave up with, "Oh, um ... pass." At the end of the segment and after several adjustments to the scores, the final tally was Immaculate on 27, Wolmer's Boys on 29.

The third segment was well played by both teams. Wolmer's Boys gained an additional 10 points in this section, while Immaculate managed to only secure six points. The sound of the final bell was met with cheers of jubilation from the Wolmer's supporters. The final scores were Immaculate 27, Wolmer's, 34.

ASTRA PER ASPERA

Coach of Immaculate, Duane Burke, was proud of his team's performance during the season and told THE STAR, "Our school motto is as astra per aspera through difficulties to excellence, and I think the team personified this. They had a stellar season. Their experiences will live on through time."

Wolmer's captain, Ocasta Haye, told THE STAR, "We were expecting a good fight from Immaculate. The questions had some level of difficulty but I think we managed okay. We made a few mistakes but we'll be working on them for our next match."

Wolmer's: Ocasta Haye (capt.), Dorian Beckford, Jabari Wellington, Charles Ball.

Immaculate: Anika Richards, Candice Walton, Christina Wauchope (capt.), Charlrica Bryan.

Next : Camperdown High vs. Belair High.
