LAST MONDAY'S STAR story of a mother who allegedly gave her four children to a complete stranger is a very odd one. If the allegations are true, one has to wonder what could possibly have been going through this woman's mind?
The story is made even more depressing with the news that one of her daughters was allegedly molested by her 'guardian'. Imagine what the poor children must have been going through, having to live with this strange man.
It is hard to believe that these accusations are true. How could someone simply give children away? Not puppies, not kittens.......children. If it is proven that she indeed gave the children away, this woman will need intense psychiatric intervention.
We understand that 'times are hard' and that parenting might sometimes become overwhelming, but there is nothing that can justify such actions. Perhaps situations like this arise from the fact that many people do not fully comprehend what it means to be a parent.
They take on this giant task without considering the implications and later, find themselves bending under the weight.
A story like this, true or not, should remind us of how important it is to be a good parent. Several organisations and support groups have been formed to help those who find it hard to support their children, whether financially or emotionally. No one should have to resort to giving children away.
