DEAR PASTOR,
I have a short question to ask you. Do you believe that a person who is studying theology should smoke tobacco, even though they said that they only do it maybe once or twice a year? My view on it is that even though we are all human beings, some of us who are Christians and who have decided to further our relationship with God, (for example, a Christian studying theology), there are things such as smoking and drinking excessively, should not be a part of our lifestyle.
What do you think? As a pastor, I would like to hear your point of view.

Dear M.,
The Bible is silent on the subject of smoking.
Therefore, it is not on biblical grounds that I could discourage a man/woman from smoking. I would do so solely on the grounds that it is hazardous to one's health.
The Bible does not state that it is a sin to drink any form of alcoholic beverage.
It clearly teaches that one should not drink in excess and become drunk. It also emphasises that one should keep away from strong drink.

Jesus drank wine and so did his disciples. Other godly men in the Scripture drank and became drunk and that displeased the Lord
