Jah Cure - FILE
THE ISSUE OF whether an incarcerated artiste should be able to do music while behind bars is one which has sparked several debates. Some feel it is unfair to expect the artiste to simply stop working, while others think that to allow this would be to undermine the purpose of jail. We wanted to get your views, so we asked:
A whopping majority, 72 per cent, believe that incarcerated artistes should be allowed to make music. Popular artiste Jah Cure is one example of a Jamaican artiste who has managed to record and release several hit songs though he is in jail. His music has been well received by the public and even though some people resent the fact that he has been allowed to record, his popularity is undeniable. He has also been allowed to shoot a video which enjoyed heavy rotation on local television stations.
Some believe that allowing artistes to do music while in jail is an attempt to rehabilitate through music. Perhaps this explains why so many people are in favour of this move.
See tomorrow's paper to see how many people feel that artistes should be allowed to get the money from the records that are sold.
