PORTMORE UNITED WILL finally get one of their outstanding Wray and Nephew National Premier League games out of the way when they play against Constant Spring today at the Spring Complex.
FIGHT OF THEIR LIFE
Constant Spring are also in the fight of their life, as they face a familiar demon called relegation.
Last year as it is in this one, Constant Spring had to play the catch-up game.
This time around though things look bleak.
At present, they are seven points behind Wadadah with five games to go.
Those seven points became even harder to garner after they played to a 2-2 draw against Wadadah, the very team they need to surpass in the standings.
While this game becomes supremely more important because of that draw, for Constant Spring, a win might be farfetched, as Portmore United have, over the last few weeks, struck a tremendous vein of form.
After losing to Club America in the CONCACAF Club Champion-ships, the defending premier league champions have not looked back.
After dispatching Harbour View in the quarter-finals of the Red Stripe Champions Cup they delivered a crushing blow to the red-hot Waterhouse unit, winning 3-1.
The good thing about the game for Constant Spring is that the Spring Complex is known for not producing the best football.
The field is undulating and makes it difficult for teams that like to pass the ball to do so at will, presenting for Portmore what could be their biggest problem.
RELEGATION-BOUND
Even with that though, it is difficult to see the relegation-bound unit defeat the team that just usurped Tivoli Gardens for third place in the Premier League with definite signs that they aren't through wreaking havoc on the league tables.
Portmore at present have 45 points, the same as Tivoli who have played two more games.
Judging from that, Portmore could be a fix for third place but will need the points from unfortunate Constant Spring.
