$10,000 fine for machete chop

santa cruz

TERRENCE BAKER, 27, was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm after it was alleged that he used a machete to chop 24-year-old Kirk Jones on his left hand earlier this year, was fined $10,00 or 10 days when he appeared in the Santa Cruz RM Court on Tuesday.

Baker pleaded not guilty but later changed his plea to guilty after he told the court he was defending himself.

The court, was told that on January 27 this year, Baker, who lives at Cuffies Pen, Lacovia, St. Elizabeth, went to Island Hardware Store in the same district to purchase some cement when he and the complainant, a handyman, had a dispute over 'hard-up' cement.

The court was informed that the accused went away and came back with a machete and chopped the complainant. Jones went to the police station and made a report and the accused was subsequently arrested and charged.
